HACO Industries Partners with Ghana’s Ayewa Aberfur to Manufacture Amara Lotion Locally
With more than 50 years of operations, HACO manufactures approximately 90 products across haircare, skincare, homecare and plastics. Its brands reach more than three million households across Africa, while the company works with over 500 farmers on the continent to source raw materials.
Kenyan consumer goods manufacturer HACO Industries Limited has expanded its presence in West Africa after signing a manufacturing and distribution partnership with Ghanaian company Ayewa Aberfur to produce and sell Amara skincare lotion in Ghana.
The agreement is expected to strengthen HACO’s regional operations by bringing production closer to consumers while creating opportunities to expand its portfolio of African consumer brands across West Africa.
Under the partnership, HACO will provide technical expertise, manufacturing systems, product standards and oversight of formulations and quality assurance. Ayewa Aberfur will contribute its production capabilities, product development experience and understanding of the Ghanaian market.
The two companies have already undertaken product validation, stability testing, operational assessments and technical training in preparation for local manufacturing. They also plan to introduce standardised operating procedures, quality management systems, regular technical reviews and audits to maintain consistent product standards.

HACO Managing Director Mary-Ann Musangi said the collaboration demonstrates the importance of connecting manufacturing expertise with local markets to strengthen African value chains. She noted that combining HACO’s technical capabilities with Ayewa Aberfur’s market knowledge would establish a foundation for producing Amara lotion in Ghana.
The partnership follows market research that identified Ghana as a strategic entry point into West Africa, supported by its economic potential, business environment and regional position.

The Ghana manufacturing initiative will also support HACO’s efforts to increase the use of African-sourced ingredients, including oils and butters, while strengthening connections between local farmers, manufacturers and consumers.
The agreement aligns with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which seeks to encourage intra-African trade, regional manufacturing and cross-border commerce.
Looking ahead, HACO aims to establish a presence in 30 African countries by 2030 and develop five manufacturing hubs across the continent. The Ghana partnership is expected to contribute to this wider expansion strategy by strengthening regional production capacity and supply chains.
